I hope to have these sidings arranged
for before I send home my indent. They will form the subject of subsidiary estimates and will have to stand on their own
merits.
I have not gone in for anything very elaborate for the outside stations. In Kowloon Station, I have not estimated for a Station Building as the size and position of this is not yet settled. The size will
depend largely on the method of future Railway management, the Administration offices should be on the first floor. The ground
floor should be given up to Ticket Offices, Waiting Rooms,
Refreshment Rooms &c. Until it has been decided whether the
deep sea wall is to be built or not I cannot draw out a complete
estimate for this station.
For goods accommodation I am allowing
one ground floor shed 300 feet by 100 feet with 1,000 ft. of Platform. I am allowing for an engine shed for four engines
and a carriage washing shed with pits to examine the bogies.
For outside stations I am only allowing
one building on one side of the line only with separate quarters
for the Station Master and Signaller.
For Taipo I am allowing a small goods
shed with jetty with ash pits and watering arrangements. These
latter may be necessary, but if engines are charged at the
frontier, I think it might be possible to get engines capable
of negotiating the heavy grades without watering at Taipo.
The $234,067 booked against this
Main Head represents the depreciated value of construction
plant after the construction is complete. In the case of
tunnel plant about 42% depreciation has been charged against
works. This is sufficient I consider as the plant for the tunnel
is not shipped about to the same extent as Bridge Building
Plant.
For Miscellaneous plant I have placed
